Standstill

Sound from stillness

An inverse instrument: sound appears when you stop moving. Tap once, hold the phone against your chest, and stand as still as you can.

After a short calibration a soft wash fades in. Keep still and it blooms — new tones join the longer you hold. Any movement silences it instantly; stillness must be earned back slowly.

The bloom breathes at about six breaths per minute — let your own breath follow the rings as they grow and ease. Slow breathing is also a good standstill strategy.

You will never reach silence-proof stillness: the wandering dot is your own micromotion — balance, breathing, heartbeat — steering the sound's colour and stereo position.

Championship runs a 3-minute standstill competition, like the real Norwegian Championship of Standstill (which runs six): highest average stillness wins.

The Difficulty slider sets how strictly motion counts: left is forgiving (good for a first try), right demands near-perfect stillness. For a fair Championship, everyone should use the same setting.
