Rhythm-bot

Dr. Squiggles is a robot at RITMO that listens to your rhythm and plays along. This is its browser cousin: tap a beat, and it will lock on and start improvising. Change the tempo and watch it follow, or lose you. Everything runs in this page: nothing you tap or play leaves your browser, and any microphone audio is analysed locally for the timing of onsets only, never recorded or sent anywhere.

Tap a beat

Microphone is off. Press “Use microphone” to let the bot listen for claps or taps instead of the space bar; your browser will ask permission first. Onset timing from a laptop microphone is approximate: it is analysed in the browser at screen refresh rate, so it can jitter by a few tens of milliseconds; tapping is more precise.

Bot behaviour

Boldness sets how often the bot adds an off-beat or two sixteenth-note pickups instead of the plain beat. Follow strength sets how fast its tempo estimate chases a change in your tapping.

Tap a beat, or turn on the microphone, to get started.

What to notice: tap steadily and the bot locks on within about four taps; keep a study pulse and raise Boldness to hear it add off-beats and pickups, always anchored back on your next tap; speed up or slow down gradually and watch Follow strength decide how eagerly it chases you; stop tapping for four beats and it fades out and admits it lost the beat.
